The Story
Josh Renall didn't buy into Goat Horn. He grew into it. He first walked through the doors years back as a school kid on the gateway pathway — the scheme that puts secondary students into real workplaces — and never really left. He worked the place, learned it from the floor up, and now he owns it. It's the kind of thing locals know and quietly respect.
He opened the doors under his own name on 26 April 2023, after a week of renovations, and named it Goat Horn for no grander reason than it felt country and it stuck in your head. Both of those turned out to be true.
If you stop in mid-morning you'll see why he doesn't need to advertise — morning tea is standing room only. The cabinet's always worth a look, and the kai is homemade and done properly. A local who learned the place from the floor up and now owns the front door on the main street. He's not going anywhere — and on this evidence, Goat Horn will be a Waipawa fixture for a long time yet.
