Walk in the door at The Favor Flavour and the first thing you learn is a word: Bula.

It’s the Fijian greeting hanging in gold script above the coffee bar, where Vishal and Rajeshni Chand run New Plymouth’s only Fijian Indo-Chinese fusion cafe — mango chicken, oyster lamb, butter chicken, and prawn curry alongside the usual brunch menu.

The menu doesn’t pick a lane and stick to it — and that’s the point. Pancakes and eggs benedict share the board with a butter chicken special, and the cabinet is stacked with home baking made the same way, every day.

Some places deserve a mention. The Favor Flavour, tucked into the Richmond Centre on Egmont Street, is one of them.
