Eclectic Country

36 Dundas Road, Sanson · SH1 Manawatū

For nine years, Marie Mullins has been up before the sun on a Friday, loading the car and making the run into Feilding for the farmers' market. That is where a lot of folks first met the Pickle Lady, and where the reputation got its start. These days you will find her on State Highway 1 at Sanson, in the building she and her husband Phil brought back to life and turned into Eclectic Country.

What's in store

Small-batch pickles, chutneys, relishes, jams, jellies and sauces — most gluten free, all preservative free. The full Rawleigh's range. Plus NZ-made sheepskin slippers, leather handbags, native timber boxes and wooden furniture.

How to find us

36 Dundas Road, Sanson — right on State Highway 1, about 20 minutes north-west of Palmerston North. Open six days, 10am to 4pm. Closed Saturday.

Carl's Note

"Talk to Marie for five minutes and you'll see it — she knows her stuff, especially the Rawleigh's remedies. And she won't put a pot of jam or pickles on until she's got the time to put her heart and soul into it. That's exactly why people keep coming back. Worth pulling off the highway for."
